Visualizing complex information is the holy grail of
software. When you search in AltaVista or in Yahoo, you get
a huge list of information. As you scroll through your
2000 results, you may experience death by a thousand clicks.
Could there be a better way? Becky Pranger, the Creative Director at Invisible Worlds, thought so. She developed the concept of the SpaceKit Viewer. Danny Goodman, one of our advisors, told her to blue sky this new software design:
Don't think about what can be done, think about what you want. Becky developed a series of 18 storyboards on how she wanted the software to operate, how people can interact with data, and how to personalize and customize the interface.
Then, Becky handed over the storyboards to Danny Goodman. Danny worked exclusively in JavaScript and Dynamic HTML to implement the concept. We think you'll be quite impressed by the results. Danny pushed JavaScript far beyond the
oft-encountered animated rollover or smart formlet and built a
whole freakin' application (his words, not ours :).
Danny Goodman's SpaceKit Viewer is the first of many user interfaces you'll see from Invisible Worlds. Check back frequently to Mappa.Mundi Magazine to see what other members of our developer program are coming up with.
